Chapter Fifteen

Haley

WITH ONE final look the door closes behind Parker as I hold back, wanting to throw myself at him and kiss the crap out of him. Why am I holding back? I am technically single, we have great chemistry – what’s the harm in having a little fun?

No you can’t! It’ll only make it harder to walk away when this week is over.

Will clears her throat, “So, do I get the goods now that we’re alone?” She smiles at me wickedly and I swat the air in her direction.

“Stop.” I hop on the bed with her.

“Come on Haley. What’s going on?” she demands.

“We are two friends on a road trip, having fun.” It’s the closest thing to the truth. She looks away from me at the closed door then back to me.

“I should really tell you something. You know I’m not really good about being delicate and shit, right?” Will starts, sitting up, crossing her legs facing me. “I’m just gonna rip the bandaid off - Doug’s been cheating on you.” My eyes go wide. Talk about ripping the band-aid off. And not being even a little sensitive. Shouldn’t there have been some kind of lead up to that proclamation?

“WHAT!” My arms fly out.

“Lexi overheard him with some of his buddies at the church. He was saying how you better not fuck Parker. He said the whole reason he even asked you to marry him was because of my wedding. He didn’t realize you guys ‘knew’ each other.” She puts knew in air quotes. “So when you told him you were there with Parker - he said there was no way he was letting some jock mess up his carefully constructed future. But he has been fucking one of the tellers at work this whole time. In fact he told them he did her the night before your wedding. Michelle?” Will finishes and my mouth is gaped wide open.

What the fig!

I don’t know what to say. He had been cheating on me. I was holding back from Parker who treated me like I was someone. Doug didn’t love me, we really were more of a business merger or ‘carefully constructed future’. I just made excuses for him because what Will has with Bentley is some fairytale bull donkey, but I want it. And I want it with Parker. But I can’t be one of those girls, throwing themselves at a celebrity. And I won’t handle the jersey chasers like Will does. I don’t know how she does it. Especially with how awful the tabloids are to her. She is under constant scrutiny.

Son of a biscuit. I need everything swimming in my head to slow down.

“Haley?” Will pulls me out of my reverie, leaning forward to rest her hand on my shoulder.

“Forking Michelle!” I scream, it finally hits me. “I see her every time I go in there, and she is always so nice to me.” She is nothing like me; she is a little younger but a total space cadet, and dresses like she works at a strip club.
